Today we have two massive record birthdays,

Today we have two massive record birthdays, "Prince - Dirty Mind" AND "Talking Heads - Remain in Light", both released on not only the same DAY but also same YEAR: 1980! 💖 • So because of that I thought I'd rank my 10 favorite records from 1980 that I own. I also want to point something out that I notice when I make these year lists: the diversity during the 70s & 80s when it comes to full length, studio albums topping the charts, being available on vinyl & getting a lot of exposure is... not good. So let me just highlight some moments from 1980 besides these records I've chosen: • Diana Ross' super hit "Upside Down" dominated the charts AS IT SHOULD, Sugarhill Gang released their debut album, produced by absolute LEGEND Sylvia Robinson aka The Mother Of Hip Hop, & would've been included here if I owned it... Also, icon Joan Jett released her debut album (the person I'm channelling in this photo, but also don't own on vinyl) & by doing so opened doors & still inspire women to take our well-deserved space in rock, Kurtis Blow released the first ever certified gold rap song, one of my favorite musicians , Laurie Spiegel, released the beautiful & groundbreaking "The Expanding Universe" & Irene Cara's "Fame" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song to name a few things. • So 1980 was a massive year for music, not just what got pressed onto wax. But let's talk 1980 favorites. What album from this year is your favorite? 💙 • My list: 1. Laurie Spiegel - The Expanding Universe 2. Talking Heads - Remain in Light 3. Prince - Dirty Mind 4. Joy Division - Closer 5. Peter Gabriel - Melt (3) 6. Bruce Springsteen - The River 7. AC/DC - Back In Black 8. Judas Priest - British Steel 9. Dire Straits - Making Movies 10. Motörhead - Ace Of Spades
